What Wilson County actually is
Floresville, La Vernia and Stockdale sit close enough to San Antonio that a good deal of the county's agricultural ground now sells to buyers who intend to live on it rather than farm it. Peanut and grain country is steadily becoming small-acreage homesites.
For sellers that has been favourable. For buyers it means paying attention to what a change of use does to the valuation — a tract bought out of row-crop production and put to a different use can trigger a rollback, and the number surprises people who did not ask in advance.
The San Antonio River and its tributaries run through the county, so floodplain and water rights deserve early attention on anything near the bottoms.
